The first day of the Autumn is given on a quite precise date according to the positioning of the sun compared to the ground.
The autumn equinox is alternate between the Northern hemisphere and the Southern hemisphere: for the countries of the Northern hemisphere, the fall equinox takes place on September 23 in 2006 whereas for those of the southern hemisphere, this same date corresponds to the spring equinox!
The first day of the Autumn corresponds to the entry during one time when the sunning decreases. It is one period of the very pleasant year, neither too heat, nor too cold, where nature offers a blazing and coloured face to us.
